A long stretch of golden sand between two rocky headlands, Coral Bay's busy Blue Flag beach is just 11 kilometres north of Paphos town. There's a wide range of facilities to keep visitors happy, with plenty of tourist amenities, shops and bars. The calm waters of the bay are clean and family-friendly, and ideal for a host of water-based activities, from pedalos to water-skiing.
It's also an excellent jumping-off point for the rugged splendour of Cyprus's northwest coast. It's one of the island's most unspoilt coastlines and home to a protected National Park, on the Akamas Peninsula. There are good road connections from Coral Bay to "hidden gems" like Polis and Latchi, smaller and quieter resorts just 20km away.
The village of Peyia, built on a hillside overlooking the bay, is a sleepy oasis in this busy part of the island. It comes to life as the sun sets, when its tavernas begin to serve the best of the day's catch to villagers and visitors eager to enjoy another balmy evening.
Paphos region has established itself as the country's golfing capital, with three courses already operating, including the first-class facilities at Aphrodite Hills, around half an hour away. More courses are promised in the future, and the construction of a 1,000-berth marina close to Coral Bay will further broaden the area's appeal.
